New Album by Frank Glover: mim-two ballets for nonet

“I said no to school, I said yes to Coltrane.”

-Frank Glover, Take 2 Documentary

Since moving back to the midwest from NY at the start of this year, I have had the pleasure of studying clarinet and hanging out with Frank Glover. I had always known of Frank through his playing and through my colleagues but our paths had never crossed. I remember during my last year of undergrad at Butler when my jazz professor Dr. Pivec had us studying respected local musicians; Frank being one them we checked out. His album Siamese Twins became a quick favorite of mine. For those of you who may not be familiar with him, why don’t we get to know him a lil bit?

Frank is a phenomenal clarinetist and composer (and saxophonist) based in Nashville, IN. He’s been a staple in the Indiana jazz community with previous works including “Mosaic”, “Siamese Twins”, “Something Old, Something New”, “Politico” and “Abacus” and the documentary film “Take Two”( you can check it out HERE: https://www.wfyi.org/programs/take-2/television/take-2) . His recordings have been mentioned alongside those of some of the best of Indiana’s other well-known jazz artists, including Wes Montgomery and J.J. Johnson.

On August 6th & 7th, 2019, Frank and will record mim-two ballets for nonet, a record of his original music for string quartet and jazz quintet. Over the past few months I’ve been able to see how much time and effort that has been put into this music and I can’t wait for everyone to hear it. This will be one of the few records ever made to combine string quartet and jazz quintet and I’m eager to hear how it all blends together.

In addition to being a great musician, Frank is a genuine person with a kind soul whom I have the honor of calling my mentor and friend. Ya’ll know albums ain’t cheap and Frank could use our support to help finish funding this project. It’s almost there!! All support will allow something new to be added to the short list of recordings that attempt to push the boundaries of mixed-discipline music.
